Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Software Engineering Manager to lead, mentor, and manage a team of software engineers responsible for building scalable,compliant, and cutting-edge MedTech solutions deployed at scale to the cloud.The ideal candidate will excel in delivering software products on time,ensuring high quality and regulatory compliance, while fostering cross-functional collaboration with teams such as product management, data science, regulatory affairs, and quality assurance.
You will join an extremely motivated team committed to performing a high impact work in the precision medicine field. You will play a key role in driving execution, defining engineering best practices, and ensuring the seamless integration of software development efforts across various interdisciplinary teams.
EU citizens will be requested a registration certificate in Spain. Non-EU residents must hold a valid residence and work permit. Additionally, all applicants must possess educational qualifications that are accredited or recognized by the Ministry of Education to ensure compliance with the standard educational requirements for the role.
Key Responsibilities:
- Team Leadership & Mentorship: Lead and manage a team of software engineers, providing mentorship, career development, and performance feedback. Foster a collaborative, high-performing, and results-driven culture.
- Project Management & Execution: Oversee the end-to-end software development lifecycle, ensuring that projects are delivered on time, within scope, and with high-quality standards. Coordinate across teams to identify and mitigate risks early in the development process.
- Cross-functional Collaboration: Work closely with product management, data science, quality assurance, and regulatory affairs teams to align engineering efforts with business and regulatory goals. Ensure seamless communication and collaboration between departments to drive project success.
- Deliverability & Quality Assurance: Take full ownership of project deliverables, ensuring that all software releases meet FDA and CE compliance requirements, are tested rigorously, and adhere to ISO quality management system standards. Collaborate with QA to establish and maintain automated testing pipelines for faster and more reliable releases.
- Resource Management & Planning: Allocate engineering resources effectively to maximize productivity and meet deliverables. Plan and track team capacity, balancing immediate priorities with long-term strategic goals.
- Process Improvement & Best Practices: Define and implement best practices for agile development, code reviews, continuous integration/continuous delivery (CI/CD) pipelines, and DevOps practices. Strive for continual improvement in the team’s software development processes.
- Technical Guidance & Innovation: Provide technical guidance and oversight to ensure software design and architecture meet the performance,scalability, and compliance requirements. Stay updated on emerging technologies and industry trends, especially related to cloud computing, machine learning, and data security in healthcare.
- Stakeholder Management: Effectively communicate project updates, timelines, and deliverables to key stakeholders across engineering, product, and regulatory teams. Serve as the main point of contact for the software engineering team regarding deliverability and execution.
- Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all software development efforts are aligned with FDA, ISO, GDPR, and other relevant regulatory standards. Collaborate with the regulatory affairs team to support submission processes and audits.
Qualifications & Skills:
Education:
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
Experience:
- 7+ years of experience in software engineering, with at least 2+ years in a managerial or leadership role.
- Proven track record of delivering software solutions in a regulated environment, ideally in MedTech or healthcare.
- Strong experience in project management and team leadership, with demonstrated success in driving projects to completion on time and within budget.
- Solid understanding of cloud architectures, AI/ML integration, and DevOps practices.
- Familiarity with FDA & ISO and other relevant healthcare standards.
Technical skills:
- Experience with modern software development languages and frameworks, such as Python, Java, C++, or JavaScript.
- Proficiency in cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and microservices architecture.
- Expertise in agile methodologies, CI/CD pipelines, and automated testing.
- Solid understanding of software security best practices,especially in handling sensitive medical data (HIPAA, GDPR).
Soft skills:
- Strong leadership and team-building skills, with the ability to motivate and guide engineers in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of collaborating effectively with interdisciplinary teams and translating technical concepts into business language.
- Exceptional problem-solving and organizational skills, with attention to detail in managing resources and deadlines.
Languages:
English and Spanish
Nice to Have:
- Experience in developing AI-driven or SaMD (Software as a Medical Device) solutions.
- Certifications such as Certified ScrumMaster (CSM), PMP, or equivalent.
- knowledge/understanding of applicable FDA regulations to IVD, the IVDR, GDPR, ISO 13485, ISO 62304
